In October 1967, two years after the debut of the Silver Shadow, Rolls-Royce launched an exclusive two-door convertible model. This model would be the forerunner to the Corniche convertible which appeared in 1971, and is now recognised as being amongst the most desirable of all post-war Rolls-Royces and Bentleys.
The Silver Shadow convertible was styled under John Blatchley’s direct supervision, to his concept and precise requirements. Part of the styling process was entrusted to Bill Allen, John Blatchley’s deputy, and it was he who created the definitive shape using the wax modelling technique.
The total time to build an MPW car could be anything between four and a half and six months, depending on customer requirements, in sharp contrast to the twelve weeks it took to complete a standard Silver Shadow.

The Silver Shadow MPW convertible that is here presented, is a very fine example of this early Silver Shadow convertible model. It was delivered new in December 1969 to Philip Trevor-Jones of Lowe & Fletcher Ltd. from Staffordshire, UK, a leading British manufacturer of a wide range of locking systems for industry. The motor car was finished in Sage green with dark green top and green leather interior. A later owner resprayed the car and created this darker green paint colour, that suits the car very well. The triple green colour scheme makes it a striking, desirable car.

In 1995 this Rolls-Royce was purchased by Garage de Vaal, brought to the Netherlands and sold to a Dutch customer. From then onwards it has been in one, long lasting, cherished ownership. In 2016 the car, nicknamed “the Frog”, was offered for sale and Garage de Vaal bought it back. After some improvements this Silver Shadow Mulliner Park Ward convertible is back in great condition and is ready to enjoy a sunny life in extreme comfort.

In the past years about €27,000 have been invested for technical improvements. Amongst others the following parts have been replaced: the front brake discs and rear brake discs, the pistons in all calipers, all brake pads, all brake hoses and height control hoses, the master cylinder, the rear wheel bearings, several water and heating hoses, the trailing arm straps, the airco compressor (and an airco modification kit has been fitted), the complete front bonnet pad`s, the power steering hoses, the thermostat, the contact points, the HT lead set, the wiper blades, the engine oil and the engine-oil filter, the gearbox oil and filter, the petrol filter, the hydraulic fluid and the filter, the coolant. Furthermore the interior trim, the carpets, the convertible top and the boot have been cleaned, and in the boot some panels were replaced. Finally the carburettors have been revised.
