Significance.

Lancia’s history with Italian coachbuilder Zagato stretches back nearly a century. The union has created some of the most stunningly beautiful cars of all time, and in 1992, they elected to join forces once again. This time, it was to create a lightweight coupe body for the company’s legendary Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione. The result was a stout coupe built from aluminum with Zagato’s famed “double-bubble” roof that looks like nothing else on the road. It didn’t only look the part, shaving more than 400 lbs off the standard HF Integrale, which transformed the already exciting vehicle into a true performance icon. Although 500 were slated for production, a mere 24 units were sold during the car’s two-year production run.

About this vehicle.

This Hyena was the 18th example built, finished in red over black, and put into storage upon its completion. It was then sold to its first owner in the UK in April of 2002, where it remained for nearly 20 years. During that time, the car was used sparingly, having been shown at events like the Lancia Centenary Celebration in Turin in 2006 and was written about in marque-specific magazines. In 2021, the car was sold to its second owner, who sent it to Lancia Delta experts Italiamotorsport Parussini of Udine, Italy, who oversaw a comprehensive restoration that included a color change to the Ferrari color Grigio Alloy that you see today. During this restoration, the engine received some modifications, which bumped power from the standard 250 to 320 horsepower through a remap and custom Lancia Delta Group-A Rally-car styled exhaust. The interior is also wrapped in a striking turquoise Alcantara, which harkens back to the Delta HF Integrale “Martini 6” of 1992. Since the car’s completion, it has seen minimal road use and is in overall spectacular condition. There is a possibility this is the only Hyena that has been imported to the United States, and it is certainly one of the best examples anywhere in the world.
