It goes without saying that the Alfa Romeo RZ is a very special car. Based on the closed version, the SZ, the RZ still differs in quite a few points. Not only in appearance, but also in production number, the convertible is a lot more exclusive. Only 278 pieces were produced of this and more than 1000 pieces of the SZ. Delivered to a German Alfa Romeo dealer in 1993, this RZ, with production number 99, was stored and not registered. The well-known Dutch Alfa dealer Sam van Lingen took over the car in 1996 and sold it to one of their customers. In 2008, the car was bought back and stored in Sam’s collection. This time until 2018, when the current and second private owner added the RZ to his collection of Alfa Romeo’s. The mileage was 48.700 km at the time. The current mileage is 51.933 km.
The car was meticulously maintained by (former Alfa Romeo dealer) Valk from Rijssen. The right address for real enthusiasts’ cars that originate from Italy. Of course, all invoices are present. For example, in addition to normal maintenance, the tires were replaced (of course by the well-known Pirelli Cinturato P7) and the timing belt as well.
And then the driving… it is really enjoyable to drive open, but when this is combined with being able to listen to the wonderful “Busso” 3.0 liter V-6, one of the best engines Alfa has ever made, then the party is almost complete. Almost, because we must add to this the great driving characteristics. Based on the chassis of the Alfa 75, which also excelled in its fantastic roadholding, the RZ has been given a big boost in the form of advanced KONI shock absorbers that are also height-adjustable. Very convenient to avoid a scratch on the underside when you have to pass a bumpy road. Not that you have anything to do with a car like this in such area, because it feels more at home on wonderful flat tarmac roads with as many bends as possible. That’s where this unique, almost concept-car-looking convertible is built for.
In summary, we can safely say that this Alfa Romeo RZ is a real collector’s car that fits into any collection, but that it is mainly a car for enthusiasts who value exclusivity and stability of value, but who are also real drivers and who love nothing more than to really enjoy their car.
