The Lancia Flaminia, named after the Via Flaminia, the road from Rome to Rimini, was produced from 1957 to 1970. It was Lancia's flagship at the time and replaced the Aurelia. During its lifespan it saw several versions: sedans, coupés and convertibles. The Flaminia coupé and convertible were coachbuilt cars with bodies from various prestigious Italian coachbuilders.
Many consider the Lancia Flaminia Zagato to be Zagato's best and most balanced design. The Zagato model looked very aerodynamic in aluminium, with headlamps integrated into the bodywork and a double-bubble roof, when it was shown on the Lancia stand at the 1958 Turin Motor Show. The first Flaminia Zagatos were the most streamlined version, complete with inset headlamps. From 1960, vertical lights were introduced. The ultimate Flaminia came when Zagato facelifted the original car to the Super Sport. This model had a sharply defined rear end and the return of recessed headlamps. The aerodynamics were further improved and complemented by Weber 40 DCN carburettors. The rear of the Super Sport shows the contemporary aerodynamic trend of following Professor Kamm's truncated tail.
The fastest Flaminia engine was the 3C, which stood for three carburetors. This specific Flaminia Super Sport Zagato, is one of approximately 150 examples produced with the Zagato Double Bubble bodywork. A late production example with a 2,8-liter engine, three carburetors and recessed headlights, this car represents the pinnacle of development. In 2017 this Flaminia came to the Netherlands, recently the engine was completely overhauled by a well-known specialist. The engine is now run in and ready for many beautiful journeys. The car is registered with the Zagato and the Lancia Registro Storico. The car has a Dutch license plate, the Italian license plate shown in the photo is not from this car.
