Production of the Mercedes-Benz 230SL began in June 1963 and ended on 5 January 1967. The chassis was based on the W111 sedan , with a reduced wheelbase, double wishbone front suspension and an independent single joint. The dual brake circuit had disc brakes at the front and power-assisted drum brakes at the rear. The Mercedes-Benz 230SL was offered with a four-speed manual transmission or an optional, four-speed automatic transmission, which was especially popular in the US.
